Hi, everyone, Scott Munden here from Huntleigh Group.

Welcome to part four of our eight part series in active listening.

Part four is asking questions.

In part three, we discussed reflecting and paraphrasing.

Part four, asking questions. They’re kind of interrelated. And I think you have to be careful. So asking questions can be engaging. It can help clarify, it can help, definitely can help show your engagement and also create an understanding.

But I also think you have to balance that with asking too many questions.

I think you really need to read, like, again, going back to our nonverbal cues and see where that line is in terms of too much or not enough.

But asking questions is

  • a great way to help create a better understanding,
  • a better connection with the person you’re communicating with.

So it’s a great technique. It’s also something that you need to practice as well.

And again, don’t forget to create a balance for yourself.

Thanks for watching. We’ll see you soon.
